| Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction epic movie written and directed by well-know film director James Cameron, with Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang playing the starring parts.
The word "avatar" has its origins in Hindu mythology. It denotes "god's visit to Earth to fix sth that is broken". Being one of the 3 gods who protect creation, Vishnu visits Earth regularly. As Hindu mythology state, Vishnu is dark-blue in color. Cameron has also decided to make the aliens blue.
Set in the future (in the year 2154) on an alien moon called Pandora placed the Alpha Centauri star system, Avatar film tells the eternal story of gluttony, immaturity and the violence arising out of ignorance.
The plot revolves around a soldier - Jack - who comes Pandora the planet situated in the Alpha Centauri star system in order to help The Corporation aiming to mine and export unobtainium - a precious mineral. The Na'vi are the alien arboreal humonoid species that live and thrive on the planet. They are a part of a huge symbiotic living system that comprises plants and animals which are connected by a biological interaction network. The Corporation plans to mine the planet and the Na'vi fight for their fatherland. The expansion and growth of the mining colony menaces the continued existence of the local tribe.
While on a mission, Jake is taken in by the Na'vi and explores their habitat, culture and language. He falls in love with a female Na'vi who rescues him when he is lost in the forest.
Avatars are biological creatures - a combination of alien and human DNA. They are controlled by a human from whose DNA they were made. The soldier controls an avatar that is made from his brother's DNA.
Avatar draws a picture of an ideal world. The end of the movie is especially moving. The visual effects are breath-taking. Being a gifted skilful movie maker, Cameron has shot one of the most carefully thought-out and consistent films. The film is worth viewing. |
